Hello, my name is Emma

Emma Hilton holding a vase in her garden

I make vases that are inspired by growing flowers at home. My aim is to make them both beautiful to look at and practical to arrange flowers in.

My vases are thrown on the wheel. Each one is unique and sold individually.

The glazes are designed to appear simple from a distance – to give the flowers the spotlight – but also to have subtle detail and texture in the surface if you look closely.

Pot Code

Each of my pots has a unique code on the base. You can see how to interpret the code in the image on the right.

The unique pot numbers restart at ‘01’ at the beginning of each month.

My Studio

In the summer of 2023 I created a pottery studio in my garden and this is where all of my work is now made.

I feel so lucky that I’m able to work with a view of the flowers that inspire me.

If you’re interested in how I made the studio then there’s several posts on my Instagram about the process. There’s also a tour here.

Growing Flowers

I fell in love with growing flowers around the same time I fell in love with making pots.

I particularly enjoy growing plants from seed. There’s something so wonderful about watching them germinate, nurturing them as they grow and then seeing them flower.

All of the arrangements on the website and on my Instagram feature seasonal flowers from our garden.

Sustainability

It is important to me that this business is as sustainable as possible.

All of my packaging is recyclable and almost all is compostable (only the printed postage label is not, due to the printer inks). I have sourced each part carefully to try and ensure everything is made from recycled or sustainable materials. For full details on my packaging, please see the postage and packaging page.

My studio is run on 100% renewable electricity and I try to use my kiln as efficiently as I can. I also source my pottery materials carefully, including clay and glaze materials. Any trimmings and scraps of clay are recycled into new clay. I use minimal water in my system and use collected rainwater where possible.
