These Kenzan are made in Japan and are traditionally used for ikebana flower displays. They are a brilliant way of arranging flowers in vases and bowls that would otherwise be difficult to use. Stems are speared onto or slid between the spikes to secure them in place.

If you buy a Kenzan to go with your vase then I will include a small amount of waterproof floral tack as part of the vase price. You can use this to stick the Kenzan down onto the bottom of your flower bowl or vase. The Kenzan can be used without tack but I found my arrangements often fell over, so I thought I would include some to give you the best start.

You can use woody or soft stems. It’s best to cut the stems flat instead of at an angle as you might normally. Woody stems can be easier to use if you cut a slit in the end.

This is the small size, 36mm diameter. Made from the traditional materials of brass (pins) and lead (heavy base).

When my arrangement has gone over I take the Kenzan out of the bowl and clean both with hot soapy water - any residue from the tack should rub off the bowl. I’ve found the tack can be reused.
